Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Everyone at Hively would like to wish you a happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday and while our staff will be home with family, there are plenty of things you can do to prepare your landscape for a safe winter and successful spring.

Prepare for Hibernation

Even if you continue to enjoy your outdoor living spaces and fire features as the weather gets colder, now is a great time to begin covering your outdoor furniture, or if you have the space, move it into a covered storage area.If you have outdoor power equipment like lawn mowers, string trimmers and leaf blowers, be sure to use a supplemental fuel stabilizer for easy spring starting.  Now is also a great time to have this equipment professionally serviced since many outdoor power service centers are slower over the winter months.Dump the bird bath and any empty outdoor pottery and move to a covered storage area to avoid cracking in freezing temperatures.

Leaf Cleanup and Winter Pruning

Rush, Lawn Frosty, Meadow, Winter

Keeping your lawn free of leaves will help it get off to a quick start when spring comes.  Not to mention it just looks a little nicer when it's all cleaned up!  (Need help with this?  Contact Hively today!)Winter is also a great time to prune large trees and certain ornamental shrubs.Trees and shrubs are dormant and less likely to be damaged by winter pruning and it's easier to see the necessary cuts.Pruning promotes new, healthy growth and can significantly extend the life of your landscape investment.  Think of it as "preventative maintenance" for your landscape- just like an oil change for your car.Enjoy the holiday and thank you for supporting Hively for over 50 years.  We wouldn't be here without you!
